Hailing from Russia, Maria moved to Canada three years ago to continue her studies and quickly fell in love with the country’s ethereal beauty and diverse culture.
Since then, she has explored the Canadian Rockies, traveled through British Columbia, and visited Canada’s major cities.
Maria’s passion for uncovering Canada's hidden gems inspired her to connect her career path with the travel industry and join the Discover Holidays team.
In her free time, you’ll find Maria hiking to mountain peaks — camera in hand — capturing the small moments and stunning views, enjoying hot yoga and pilates, or biking around Vancouver.
What is your favorite place in Canada?
That’s such a tough question! Canada is full of incredible places, but if I had to choose just one, I’d say Kananaskis Country. It was the first place in the Canadian Rockies I ever visited, and it left a lasting impression. The feeling you get when you come out of the forest to find a turquoise lake surrounded by mountains is hard to put into words. It definitely holds a special place in my heart since it is the place that sparked my love for outdoor activities and hiking.
What is your best travel memory in Canada?
Hands down, spotting a bear during an ordinary hike in Fernie! It was both terrifying and amazing at the same time — definitely one of those moments I’ll never forget and will probably still be talking about years from now. There’s something about seeing wildlife up close that really makes you feel connected to nature in a different way.
What one thing in Canada should you experience at least once in your life?
Surfing in Tofino, especially if you’re a beginner like me! The whole vibe of the town is something special: the beaches, the waves, the laid-back atmosphere. Even just strolling through town with sandy shoes and salty hair has that charm to it.
